Cesar Manrique Tour

Adult: 83€ / Kids: 49€

This full-day tour is dedicated to the legacy of the legendary Cesar Manrique, whose artistic influence is felt all over Lanzarote. We begin at the Monument “Al Campesino,” located in the heart of the island. Manrique designed this monument as a tribute to the island’s hardworking farmers, both past and present.

Next, we head to Haria in the north, where Manrique spent the final years of his life. After exploring this picturesque town, we journey even further north to the Mirador del Rio, perched 480 meters above sea level. This incredible viewpoint, which was once an artillery post (“Batería del Rio”), has been transformed by Manrique and offers stunning views of the Chinijo Islands.

After lunch, you can choose to visit either de Los Jameos del Agua, both part of the 7 km-long lava tunnel formed by the Monte Corona volcano. The Green Caves, where locals once sought refuge from pirates and slave hunters, feature mesmerizing lighting by artist Jesus Soto and a stunning optical illusion. Alternatively, Los Jameos del Agua, home to the unique blind albino crabs, is an enchanting space with underground pathways, an auditorium, and La Casa de los Volcanes, a scientific center dedicated to volcanology.

Next, we visit the Cactus Garden, located on the site of an old ‘rofero.’ Manrique designed this beautiful garden with concentric terraces showcasing cacti from Africa, America, and the Canary Islands. This was the last of his cultural centers, opening in 1990.

Finally, we wrap up the day with a visit to the Cesar Manrique Foundation, where you’ll explore the artist’s living space, created within five volcanic bubbles formed by the 18th-century eruptions. The foundation houses a collection of Manrique’s paintings and architectural designs, offering a deeper understanding of his work.
